Water resources are essential and critical to human life/development. The pressures on water resources are expected to worsen because of climate change, growing populations and economies demand more of it. In the absence of negotiation/ bargaining and lack of clear rights, water is a source of human conflicts. Game theory is an appropriate approach to simulate and resolve such conflicts. It has become an indispensable tool in managing water resources. Though the literature on application of game theoretical approaches to (integrated) water resource management is growing rapidly, many theoretical and empirical challenges remain in this field.
